  • Brahms - Complete Clarinet Works

Recording of the Brahms-Muhlfeld cycle at the Marlboro Festival and concert tour in America and Europe

_D3_9578.JPG

For several years, Arthur Stockel has been developing an artistic project dedicated to the complete chamber music works with clarinet by Johannes Brahms: the two sonatas op.120, the trio op.114 and the quintet op.115. Conceived as a long-term project, this project relies on time, the stage and artistic collaboration in order to build a thorough and coherent reading of this major cycle of the repertoire.

Fueled by an approach blending interpretive research, residencies, and concerts, the project will bring together several close musical partners, including Manuel Vieillard, Hanna Salzenstein, and the Agate Quartet. Its centerpiece will be a three-week residency at the Marlboro Music Festival (USA) in February 2027, encompassing rehearsals, public concerts, and recording sessions.

The culmination of this work will be the production of a double album dedicated to the entire Brahms–Mühlfeld cycle, accompanied by international distribution through concerts, festivals, masterclasses and audiovisual projects in Europe and North America.

Bewitched

Although trained as a classical musician his entire life, Arthur discovered jazz at jam sessions in Paris during the summer of 2020 and fell in love with the jazz style and this way of making music. He was then inspired to bring together musicians from the jazz and classical traditions to create Bewitched.

Arthur commissioned jazz composer Philippe Maniez and classical composer Julien Giraudet to write the music. He recorded the pieces with an eclectic ensemble of his jazz and classical colleagues, producing a work unique in its scope and depth.

Enchanting. Magical. Inspiring. Enter the sonic world of Bewitched, a project created and led by Arthur Stockel, reinventing the jazz song of the same name by Richard Rodgers.
